Employment Program

The supported employment program is a research funded randomised control trial of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of vocational intervention in first episode psychosis. The project employs a full time Youth Employment Consultant at Orygen Youth Health who works with clients from the EPPIC program for a period of 6 months to place into employment or education.  The consultant also provides intensive post placement support to assist the client in maintaining employment.

Examples of assistance include;

  • Creating resumes, intensive job seeking, canvassing employers with clients, attending Centrelink/ Job Capacity Assessments and employment service appointments with clients and vocational exploration.
  • On-going support to assist the client to maintain their employment or study including work-site and school visits, advocacy, health disclosure assistance, scholarship and funding opportunity support.
  • On discharge the employment consultant can link clients to an external employment provider to continue support if necessary.

To participate in the supported employment program EPPIC clients need to be referred by their Outpatient Case Manager (OCM).
